Convention Refugees and Protected Persons

Convention Refugees are persons outside Canada or in Canada who have a well founded fear of persecution in going back to their home country or country of habitual residence based on race, religion, political opinion, nationality or membership in a particular social group.

A person may also be in need of protection in Canada if their removal to their home country of country of habitual residence would subject them personally to a danger of torture, risk to life or cruel and unusual treatment or punishment.
